Works description: Spread across 26 blocks, to compartmentise and install fire protection in the void loft areas of the 1930s buildings.

Summary of works:

  • Install 127 Firefly Phoenix curtains, offering fire protection against the passage of fire and smoke.
  • Install 176 fire rated access panels in to the Firefly Phoenix curtains to allow access through the void areas.
  • Use Firetherm Intubatt and Intumastic to seal penetrations made from cables, pipes and cable trays.
  • Install Promat Unicollar around pipes to maintain the integrity of the fire resistant elements through which various plastic pipes pass.

Works description: Survey the entire building’s doors and fire stopping to determine which corridors and rooms need their doors upgrading and/or replacing. This contract includes a heavy vetting process to allow access in to the building.
Summary of works:

  • Carry out a comprehensive survey in excess of 835 doors; mixed between communal, office, various riser and vault area doors. These doors include specialist heritage doors and security doors.
  • Carry out a survey of all fire stopping works needed in all riser areas of the building.

Works description: Spread across 21 blocks, to remove and install new fire doors, mixed between front entrance doors and communal riser doors.

Summary of works:

  • Remove and dispose of 224 front entrance doors and install new, certified fire doors.
  • To manufacture the front doors as per residents choice of style and colour.
  • To replace the fanlight above all storey height doors with the residents choice of either a solid or glazed fanlight.
  • Keep up with the demand of appointments booked by LFS and Axis Europe of up to 10 door installs per day.
  • Remove 20 communal riser doors and replace with new, certified fire doors in a uniform Peabody colour and locking system.

Works description: Following an arson attack in February 2011 where sadly 2 residents lost their lives, London Fire Solutions were appointed to carry out passive fire protection works on the building.

Summary of works:

  • Remove and replace 64 front entrance doors
  • Provide fire stopping to the electrical risers.
  • A time-critical job for Lewisham Homes, LFS completed the manufacture and installation and sign off (FIRAS & Q-Mark) of all front entrance doors within 6 weeks.

Many residents commented that the improved security and fire integrity made them feel safer.


Project Name: Borough and Bankside
Client: London Borough of Southwark
Main Contractor: J. Murphy & Son
Contract value: £1.5 million
Works description: The contract was split into 2 packages covering over 30 tower blocks across the Borough and Bankside area of Southwark.

  • To carry out a detailed survey of over 2,000 existing fire doors. We undertook this work through the BM Trada accreditation, which is reviewed annually.
  • Manufacture and install approximately 2000 fire doors in 5 months to meet an extremely demanding construction programme.
  • All doors were manufactured and installed under BM Trada’s Q-Mark scheme which provides chain of custody compliance processes providing the client with complete peace of mind.

Following the successful delivery of this project, Bryan McNamee, Murphy’s Contracts Manager said:
